Embroidery coverage is the amount of the twill fabric backing that is covered by stitching

50% coverage means that up to 1/2 of the twill backing is covered in thread. Great for simpler artwork or the inclusion of text. A classic, clean look.

75% coverage means 3/4 of the twill backing is covered n thread. Great for larger and center design elements. Embroidered areas are differentiated in texture and height from the backing, adding a distinctive look and sturdiness.

100% coverage means all of the twill patch backing is covered in thread. The stitching depth and high thread count add sturdiness and give the final patch a high perceived value.

There are lots of ways to apply a custom patch your apparel, hats or gear, so picking the right option is important.

• No backingIdeal for patches that are temporarily being applied to garments or gear. They can be secured with safety pins. Great for sew-on.
• Heat Seal (for Iron On) (extra charge)Generally for permanent placement on a garment via an iron. Will not work with nylon and other synthetic fabrics.
• Peel-Stick (extra charge)Intended for semi-permanent placement, remove the backing from the patch, position it and press down firmly. The sticky material on the back keeps it in place.
• Velcro (hook only) (extra charge)Very durable, Velcro can be used over and over for removal and reapplying. We offer Velcro patches with the "hook" fabric applied to the back of the patch. Great if you already have a fabric or gear ready for your Velcro to be applied.
• Velcro (hook & loop) (extra charge)For an additional charge over the hook-only Velcro option, we can provide an additional fabric strip containing the receiving "loop" side to which the patch can be attached.

When manufacturing a patch, the edge needs to be sealed for the patch to keep its shape and to prevent unraveling. There are 2 types of border options:

• Merrowed Bordera merrowed edge is a sewn border, created using an overlock stitch which wraps around the edge of the entire patch, generally up to 1/8" thick. A merrowed border has a smooth, rounded appearance and is typically used for more simpler shapes.
• Knife CutKnife cut borders, also called laser cut edges or hot cut edges, are recommended on complex, custom shaped patches. They are made using heated scissors or lasers cutting to the shape of the design. The heat is required to lock the threads and backing into place.
